A LETTER FROM SYDNEY (Paul O Brien)
I got a letter from Sydney it said, “Thanks for the song
I just had to cry, it’s been ever so long
I hope to get over early next year
And I’d love to move back, but my family’s all here”
“I remember as kids, watching the trains
Race off to Belfast and then back again
The railway police were the scourge of our lives
We’d hide down the sidings and laugh ‘till we cried”
I’M MOVING ON FORWARD, BUT I KEEP LOOKING BACK
STONES ON THE SLEEPERS, COINS ON THE TRACK
“One brother’s here with me he lives on the coast
And we argue about what we’re missing the most
I should never have sent you that picture, I know
But sometimes I find it so hard to let go”
“I best finish up, I just lost track of time
And I’d better look after this family of mine
No need to remind you not to forget
That’s all for now, but we’re not finished yet”
WE’RE MOVING ON FORWARD, BUT WE KEEP LOOKING BACK
